Kane Cornes has slammed the AFL’s decision to play the Geelong v Richmond Qualifying Final at the MCG.
Despite finishing second on the ladder, the Cats will host next weekend’s Friday night clash with the Tigers at the Victorian home of football and not at their local home ground of Simonds Stadium.
It is clearly a numbers decision by the AFL who see the potential 90,000+ crowd at the ‘G as a much nicer figure than the 34,000-capacity of the boutique Geelong stadium.
Interestingly, the Cats played Hawthorn at the MCG in last year’s Qualifying Final after finishing second but the Port Adelaide Premiership winner says Damien Hardwick’s Tigers have been handed a freebie by the league.
“This is the worst call of the year,” Cornes said on Sportsday SA.
“This is the biggest free-kick for the Richmond Footy Club.
“Out of anything that has happened this year, this is the biggest free-kick.”
Cornes added: “What is the point of top four?”
