Gold Coast list manager Scott Clayton the club was still only in preliminary discussions with Geelong about Gary Ablett.

Ablett has requested a trade home to the Cats, but Clayton said a lot of water was still yet to go under the bridge.

“We’re not quite at the finishing line (with Ablett),” Clayton told NAB AFL Trade Radio.

“We had a conversation (with them) and we’ll catch up with them in another couple of days.”

Adam Saad has also requested to leave Victoria, but Clayton said Essendon wasn’t the only team in the mix.

“The conversations along with his management are in a situation where we need to come to a good conclusion and Essendon are doing the right thing,” Clayton said.

“We spoke to Essendon and had some good discussions, nothings done just yet but we’re chatting.”

Clayton also confirmed the club will talk to the Dockers about trading Brandon Matera in the next 24 hours.

“We’ll catch up with Fremantle at some stage tomorrow,” Clayton said.
