As many as 12 clubs can win AFL flag says Murphy, Cornes

Kane Cornes and Robert Murphy believe the AFL landscape is as close as it has ever been, with both saying 10 teams or more are realistic chances to win the flag.

Chatting on SEN Mornings, the pair listed the teams who they think would realistically believe they’re chances to win the flag internally.

Murphy is of the notion the crowded environment makes the AFL more akin to a Cox Plate, instead of the traditional race between a finite number of clubs.

“Winning the AFL premiership used to be like the Melbourne Cup,” he said.

“It was such a big race with a tough percentage chance to win.

“On the back of the Bulldogs two years ago and the Tigers last year, I think the landscape has changed.

“The race is more of a Cox Plate, because more horses in the race think they can win.”
