Orazio Fantasia is set to miss the beginning of the impending AFL season.
The Essendon Football Club confirmed this afternoon that the electric small forward has undergone surgery on an injured knee.
Fantasia, who booted 39 goals for the Bombers last season, had a procedure to address ‘friction in his knee’.
Essendon’s Physical Performance Manager Justin Crow told the club’s official website: “Orazio has recently had ITB friction that has been causing him knee pain and had a procedure today to address it.
“The intervention went to plan and following these procedures players usually take 3-4 weeks to recover.”
The Dons take on Geelong in Colac on Sunday in the JLT Community Series before kicking off the AFL season proper at the Etihad Stadium against Adelaide on Friday, March 23.
