Malcolm Blight has assessed Essendon’s hopes ahead of the 2018 AFL season.

Continuing his season previews on Sportsday SA, the North Melbourne great and former Adelaide coach believes the Bombers may come up short in midfield.

“(Dyson) Heppell, the captain, (Zach) Merrett a really good player, and (David) Zaharakis ran 3rd, 4th and 5th in the Best & Fairest last year,” he said.

“I don’t know if they’ve got enough of them. They’re three good players, (but) I reckon they’re going to have to find two extras in that midfield.”

Asked if he has the Dons in his top 4, Blight replied: “No.

“Bottom of the 8.”
