Could Jamie Elliott and Jordan De Goey be Collingwood’s “trade bait”?

Former North Melbourne champion Brent Harvey has labelled Collingwood pair Jamie Elliott and Jordan De Goey as potential trade bait for the coming off-season.

Elliott missed the entire 2016 season and had injury problems last year as well and Harvey thinks the Pies should sell while his value is high.

“He’s the one (with currency) on their list they can get something for to bring in a big player,” Harvey told Future Stars.

De Goey meanwhile has had issues of his own, but Harvey believes he too has plenty of value.

“Jordan De Goey for me, maybe it’s a win-win, he’s had a couple of indiscretions now and maybe he needs a fresh start,” Harvey said.

“I reckon he’s got a bit of currency.”

Callum Twomey agreed, saying the former top five draft pick would have plenty of suitors if Collingwood chose to shop him around.

“I reckon there’ll be clubs coming for him at $500,000 to $600,000 plus because he’s a match-winner.” Twomey said.

While Elliott has twice finished as Collingwood’s season leading goal kicker, Harvey believes the Pies need to reinvent their forward structure next year.

“You can’t rely on Josh Thomas to kick five goals every week,” the AFL games record holder said.

“Their weaknesses are the bookends. They’re lacking a key position player at each end.

“You need to play Darcy Moore forward. Just leave him there and develop him.”

Collingwood has been strongly linked to Gold Coast captain Tom Lynch and Harvey is strongly in favour of the Magpies targeting him.

“They need a centre half forward and that’s the best one in the competition,” Harvey said.

“They need a key forward that allows Moore to be the second and Cox to be the third.”

Lynch is a restricted free agent which will give the Suns a chance to match any offer Collingwood proposes and Nathan Brown says the Pies need to be ready.

“They have to have the cash to go after Tom Lynch,” Brown said.

Elliott and De Goey combined for nine goals in the VFL this week and should be in the mix for a senior call up for their Friday night clash with Adelaide.
