Alastair Clarkson is “absolutely kidding” says Blight

Premiership coach Malcolm Blight doesn’t believe Alastair Clarkson should be meeting with AFL CEO Gil McLachlan about the rules of the game whatsoever.

The two met in a public café after Clarkson was unhappy with certain defensive strategies implemented by Sydney during his side’s loss last Friday night.

Blight almost laughed at the very idea of the two meeting to discuss the issues.

“You’re kidding, absolutely kidding,” he told SEN’s Whateley.

“You know the interesting thing about it when I see this, he had two blokes called Josh Gibson and Brian Lake play in those three premiership sides.

“I think if I go back and watch some footage I think I’ll see a fair bit of one of those two standing their ground so the other one could either take a mark or punch the ball away.”

Blight said players blocking forwards to allow a defender to break up the contest is something that’s been going on for a very long time.

“You know what, ruckmen used to stand alongside the centre half forward to keep the centre half forward down, it’s been going on for the last 100 years. Get over it,” he said.
