Could Hawthorn have the money to target Gold Coast captain Tom Lynch?
The Hawks have always been sneakily active in free agency and SEN footy commentator Jack Heverin believes they could target him.
“Since Lance Franklin left, they banked on Franklin costing a certain amount over a certain number of years and they put that money aside for that, so now they’ve used it for guys like Tom Mitchell, Jaeger O’Meara, James Frawley and others,” he told the AFL Nation pregame show.
“They’ve got the war chest to do something like target Tom Lynch.”
Former St Kilda midfielder Nick Dal Santo said if the Hawks have cleared enough cap to target Lynch, then they’ve done a brilliant job.
“I don’t know how they do it, if they’re in this Tom Lynch battle, well played,” he said.
“He hasn’t been at a club that’s given him a lot of opportunity during the game, we’re sort of predicting what he could be, not going on what he’s done and yet he could get $1.5 million.”
Other clubs in the hunt for Lynch include Richmond and Collingwood.
