Essendon not “actively pursuing” Brisbane’s Beams

Essendon have denied they are going after Brisbane’s Dayne Beams.

It was reported by Tom Morris on Sportsday last night that the Bombers were looking at a trade for the star Lions midfielder.

However, Bombers list manager Adrian Dodoro has played down such suggestions.

“As we do every year, as a club, we will look to improve our list via the trade, free agency and draft periods,” Dodoro said in a statement today.

“Dayne Beams is obviously a quality player and person, but he is not someone we are actively pursuing and we have not approached him or his management about returning to Melbourne.”

28-year-old Beams, who relinquished the Brisbane captaincy to Dayne Zorko this season, continues to be linked with a return to Victoria where he enjoyed success winning a premiership with Collingwood in 2010.

He played 110 games for the Magpies before returning home to Queensland to join the Lions in 2014.
