Should Port Adelaide trade Wingard?

Dual premiership player David King believes Port Adelaide should put star forward Chad Wingard up for trade.

The 25-year-old averaged 21 disposals and kicked 22 goals this year and King believes it’s time for Port to move on while his currency is high.

“I think you walk in to match committee today and say here are six names that I just want out of the place, what can I get for these guys?” King told SEN’s Whateley.

“And then the more you digest what you’re talking about, you end up pairing that back to two or three and then it becomes one or two and then it becomes the ultimate decision.

“Are we brave enough to trade Chad Wingard? He’s the player. He’s the one.

“He’s had a pretty disappointing year by his own admission. He’s kicked 22 goals for the year in a low scoring team, he couldn’t make it happen.

“I think they’re obligated to put Chad Wingard up (for trade) personally.

“He’s of the right age bracket, he could go to a good club and actually become a high-quality player.”

With Jared Polec seemingly set to leave Port Adelaide for North Melbourne on a five-year $700,000 deal, King believes the club needs to go out and find his replacement as well.

“Robbie Gray’s the only one that really changes the fortunes of Port Adelaide, they’ll probably lose Jared Polec to the Kangaroos and probably will get a high draft pick for that,” King said.

“You’ve got to replace Polec, he’s a high quality player for them so this notion that he’s getting paid at the Kangaroos is just wrong, they’ve had to pay what they’ve had to pay is wrong and irrelevant.

“I can’t see on their list that Polec-like player.

“They’re a team of nice, shiny magnets, but the mags haven’t looked so good on the car this year.”
