Daisy Pearce believes Sharni Layton will be a success in AFLW, after the former netballer signed with Collingwood yesterday.
Layton joins the long list of cross-code athletes to join the football ranks, and Pearce says she could follow in the footsteps of former basketballer Erin Phillips.
SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.
“Sharni will be similar (to Phillips) I think,” Pearce told SEN Breakfast.
“I don’t know what her football background is.
“Erin obviously would have been brought up around footy because of her dad, but Sharni, athletically, is the perfect footballer.
“Who knows where they’ll play her but I’d probably line her up on the half-back line or at full-back because the body work you have to do in netball will set her up to be a pest of an opponent and she’s a competitor as well.”
Layton is the second Magpie to switch from netball to football, following Ash Brazill’s lead.
