SEN’s Time On host Sam McClure says a blockbuster deal involving Brisbane and Fremantle could see Melbourne secure the services of Gold Coast captain Steven May.
With Lachie Neale looking increasingly likely to join the Lions, and Demons’ forward Jesse Hogan reportedly considering a move back to his native state of Western Australia, an exchanging of picks could see the Dees end up with pick five.
McClure is of strong belief that the Suns would accept that as part of a potential trade for May.
“Steven May has a year to run on his contract, he’s the captain of the Gold Coast Suns, and he hasn’t told the club he wants to leave,” McClure told SEN’s Time On.
“Yet he’s met with four Victorian clubs: Essendon, Collingwood, Melbourne and Hawthorn.
“The sticking point here is that the Gold Coast Suns aren’t going to trade Steven May, unless they get something overs for him.
“They’ve already had one captain leave in Tom Lynch – who will be joining Richmond on a six or seven-year deal at just under one million dollars a season.
“Gold Coast will hold him to his contract, but if Lachie Neale is the first domino to fall, that could get Steven May across the line at Melbourne.
“Lachie Neale goes to Brisbane for Brisbane’s first pick – currently pick five – that is on-traded to Melbourne from Fremantle for Jesse Hogan, and that then allows Melbourne to with that pick for Jesse Hogan to get Steven May.
“I’m of strong belief that the Gold Coast Suns would accept pick five for Steven May.”
