Why Clarkson’s commitment “falls beautifully” for Hawks Shiel chase

Alastair Clarkson’s re-commitment to Hawthorn could help the Hawks’ chase for Dylan Shiel, according to Garry Lyon.

While Lyon doesn’t think Clarkson’s re-signing announcement was made over the weekend to help convince Shiel to join the club, Lyon has explained how it will be a factor in the GWS midfielder’s decision.

SEN Breakfast with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson can be heard Monday-Friday 6-9am, and you can subscribe to the podcast here.

“It falls beautifully,” Lyon told SEN Breakfast.

“If Dylan Shiel is weighing it up and it’s a lineball and it comes down to club, culture and standing, he goes Brendon Bolton, Alastair Clarkson…of course that would be one of the great tipping points.

“Coaching genius, the ability to get the best out of new players that come from other clubs.

“I think Clarkson and the whole Hawthorn way would have some sort of bearing.”

Lyon also thinks Clarkson is looking forward to his latest challenge, after signing with the Hawks for at least the end of the 2022 season.

“He sees footy differently and will be working towards the next incarnation of how the game is being played,” Lyon said.
