Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni says the chances of Irishman Ciaran Byrne playing for the club in 2019 are looking “a little bit grim”.
The 23-year-old has returned home for the holidays and is yet to confirm if he will ever come back to the AFL.
“It’s an unknown at the minute,” Silvagni said on NAB AFL Trade Radio.
“He gets terribly home sick.
“When he gets home he finds it hard to come back.”
There has been no confirmation on Byrne’s plans for next season, but Silvagni admitted his playing future could be in doubt.
“It’s looking a little bit grim at the minute but we’re still trying to get him back here,” he said.
The running defender has played 23 games in four seasons and plays an important role for the Blues when fit.
