Mumford “destined” for Giants return despite interest from Victorian clubs: McClure

NAB AFL Trade Radio’s Sam McClure says retired ruckman Shane Mumford is likely to return to GWS to boost their depleted ruck stocks.

With Rory Lobb requesting a trade to Fremantle, the Giants look thin in the ruck department, and the potential arrival of Mumford would address an area that needs urgent reinforcements.

McClure revealed that Victorian clubs – including St Kilda – have enquired about the 32-year-old.

“I reckon they (St Kilda) asked the question about Shane Mumford, but Shane Mumford is going to go to the Giants,” McClure told NAB AFL Trade Radio.

“And they aren’t the only ones, there has been a few Victorian clubs that have asked the question about Shane Mumford.

“But he’s destined on going to the Giants. They have to pick him up and use a draft pick – a late draft pick.

“I reckon clubs will want to do a medical on someone like a Shane Mumford.”

Mumford retired from AFL football after injuring his foot in the Giants’ 2017 Qualifying Final loss to Adelaide.
