The AFL won’t introduce an 18-metre goal square next season, according to the Herald Sun.

It’s expected the AFL will officially announce rule adjustments for the 2019 season later today.

Instead of the extended goal square, the report states the AFL will enable the kicker-in with more possibilities to move the ball forward quicker. Some of these could include allowing the player with the ball to play-on more easily, or moving the man on the mark back.

The 6-6-6 centre bounce formation is still expected to be implemented, runners will only be allowed 45 seconds on the ground after goals, and a tougher interpretation of prior opportunity are the other likely announcements today.
