Premiership player Kane Cornes has reported that Port Adelaide will send a medical team overseas to perform a fitness test on Hawk Ryan Burton.
Burton is currently holidaying in the USA with his partner, but Hawthorn has reportedly put him on the trade table in a bid to land Chad Wingard from the Power.
“So Ryan Burton is in the US, and clearly some concerns, minor concerns, over his body,” Cornes said on NAB AFL Trade Radio’s The Early Trade.
“Just making sure the club does their due diligence on that.
“Port Adelaide are set to send a team of medical experts to the US this weekend to conduct a medical on Ryan Burton.”
The 21-year-old is contracted with Hawthorn until the end of 2020, but the Hawks may look to break that deal to lure Wingard to the club.
“It is serious and clearly Port Adelaide are considering that, and the fact they are going to send at least one or two medicos to the US to interrupt Ryan Burton’s holiday and get a medical done on him,” Cornes added.
“I can tell you that will happen this weekend.”
Burton has played 47 games across three seasons at the Hawks and was runner-up in the 2017 NAB AFL Rising Star Award.
