Wallace names the best footy team he’s ever seen

After 40 years involved in footy, Terry Wallace believes one assembling of players stands out as the best team he’s seen in that time.

Wallace, a three-time premiership Hawk, excluded his own team from the conversation, but believes the Brisbane Lions of the early 2000s ranks as the best he’s seen.

“I’ve got to go the Brisbane Lions in their three-peat,” Wallace told SEN Evenings.

“When you go through their line-up, line to line, there’s just champions and stars on every single line.”

The Lions won three consecutive flags across 2001, 2002 and 2003, while also making the 2004 Grand Final.

In that time, two of their players won Brownlow Medals (Simon Black and Jason Akermanis).

Wallace ranks the West Coast side of the early 1990s as another contender.

“Probably the two teams I was looking at – I thought the West Coast Eagles under Mick Malthouse, that was almost a state side,” he said.

“I had them really high up in consideration, but I think the Brisbane Lions are the best team I’ve seen over that time.”

Malthouse’s Eagles won the 1992 and 1994 AFL premierships and also made the 1991 Grand Final.
