GWS will challenge Shane Mumford’s one-match ban at the AFL tribunal on Wednesday.
Mumford was charged for striking Sydney’s George Hewett during a practice match last Friday.
Even though the incident occurred during the scratch match, Mumford will have to serve his ban during the home-and-away season.
This will mean he could miss the Giants’ first three games, as he is already serving a club-imposed two-match ban for the infamous white powder video.
The latest charge cannot be served concurrently with this suspension.
Mumford will still be available for selection in the JLT Community Series regardless of the tribunal outcome.
The strike on Hewett was graded as intentional conduct, with low impact to the head.
The Giants begin their 2019 campaign against Essendon on March 24.
