Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley says star forward Jordan De Goey is fighting to feature in Round 1.
De Goey suffered a mid-foot sprain at training three weeks ago, managing to avoid serious injury after requiring assistance to hobble off the ground.
Buckley says the 22-year-old is progressing well and is pushing his case for an early start in the home-and-away season.
“He’s actually come out of it really well,” the Magpies coach told SEN’s Time On.
“The initial scans were encouraging.
“To see him straight-line run last Thursday was good.
“(He) came off the line a little bit on Saturday and did some football drills on Monday, so he’s pushing to prove his fitness for Round 1, and that’s still over two weeks away.”
Buckley says all credit should be given to the club’s strength and conditioning team.
The Magpies will do battle against the Blues in their final JLT hit-out on Monday before facing the Cats in Round 1 at the MCG.
