Ex-Blues skipper Murphy breaks down new role for 2019

Carlton veteran Marc Murphy is set to test his versatility this season by testing himself at half-back.

Murphy has played the majority of his career in the midfield, and rotated through the forward line last year.

He says his role will be similar this year, but he is also working on adding a defensive side to his game.

“I’ll spend probably the majority of my time on the wing,” Murphy told SEN Breakfast.

“I’ve been doing a little bit work on the half-back flank and see how that goes.

“I think if I can serve the longevity of my career, being out of the middle and not getting hit all the time, it would probably be good for me.

“If I can play that wing role, I’ll maybe float off half-back and half-forward, it’ll give me a bit more versatility.

“I’ve enjoyed playing a little bit off half-back and I enjoy the wing so it’s good to change it up and do something different.”

The former Carlton captain will play his 250th game against Richmond on Thursday night in the AFL season opener.
