Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has confirmed Chris Mayne is set to miss time after suffering a small fracture in his back in the win over the Bulldogs.

Mayne spent Friday night in hospital after copping a knee to his back early in his 200th game.

Buckley expects to be without him for a few weeks.

"He's really sore. The thing that causes the discomfort and pain is the spasms that happen around that injury," Buckley said.

"He'll miss a couple of weeks and it will be how he comes to hand.

"How freely he can move over the next couple of weeks."

Collingwood midfielder Brayden Sier has now played a few games in the VFL after niggling injuries over the pre-season.

He picked up 25 disposals in the VFL against Footscray, while Daniel Wells successfully made his return from injury in the same game, kicking a goal and picking up 23 disposals.
