Lachie Whitfield has entered the upper echelon of midfielders, according to SEN footy analyst David King.
The GWS star has had an incredible star to the year, averaging 34 disposals per game, six inside 50s and 10 marks per game.
He’s also quickly becoming one of the deadliest players in the game by foot.
“My god, what a player,” King told SEN Mornings.
“He’s blown through two levels I reckon. He’s just been awesome.
“His kicking embarrasses the best in our competition at the moment, it really does.”
King believes Whitfield’s kicking ability separates him from other elite midfielders.
“I mean, some of the top-liners, some of the guys we rate top five in the competition, have trouble with their kicking efficiency,” he said.
“This guy is a star for the opposite reasons, but he’s getting a heap of the footy as well.
“He’s been awesome to watch.”
GWS handed the Cats their first defeat of 2019 down in Geelong and King was hugely impressed by their performance.
“In that third quarter, I think they kicked 6.4 from 11 forward 50 entries. That’s as pure as it gets against a really good defence,” King said.
“The scoreboard probably flattered Geelong at points throughout the day.”
The Giants take on Fremantle on Saturday afternoon at Manuka Oval, looking for their fourth win of the season.
