According to Fox Sports, Carlton’s number one draft pick Sam Walsh is reportedly close to signing a deal with the Blues that will keep him at the club until the end of 2022.
Phoenix Management Group’s Winston Rous began discussions with Carlton before Round 1 and conversations are going well, according to sources familiar with the negotiations.
The Blues have been eager to secure Walsh for some time and the 18-year-old is intending on staying, but this can only happen if terms can be agreed to between club and management.
Deciding what his value will be when his new contract rolls over is the most difficult part of discussions.
Walsh has become the latest NAB AFL Rising Star nominee after his 28 disposal, six tackle effort in the side’s two-point loss against the Gold Coast Suns.
He is averaging 26.3 disposals, 11.8 contested possessions and five clearances in his four games for the Blues so far.
