Pies storm from behind to pip Eagles at the line

After West Coast led for the entire afternoon, Collingwood has come from behind to pinch an incredible win at Optus Stadium – which is somewhat ironic given last year’s Grand Final.

The Pies kept close all night, but came bursting home in the last quarter, kicking 2.6 to one behind to win by a solitary behind.

Here’s everything you need to know!

The Moment: The Pies storm home

At three quarter time, it seemed West Coast had things in control and would hold on at home.

Their forward line was firing, Nic Naitanui was matching Brodie Grundy in the ruck and their midfield was getting the job done.

Things came to a grinding halt in the fourth term however and the Pies dug deep to run over the top.

Collingwood kicked three behinds in the final five minutes to edge passed the Eagles, while West Coast simply could not get the ball forward.

Medical Room: Both sides lose key players

Collingwood defender Darcy Moore suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter against West Coast and has been ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

Moore was seen limping in the rooms early on with the club providing the update that he has suffered the injury.

The defender missed the majority of 2018 and patches earlier in his career with ongoing hamstring issues.

He joins West Coast forward Jamie Cripps on the sidelines to this point in the game.

Cripps suffered what appeared to be a adductor injury after kicking the ball forward. He has also been ruled out for the game.

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury dislocated a finger, but played out the game once it was put back in.

What’s next?

West Coast heads north to take on Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park next weekend. It screams danger game for the Eagles as the Dees slowly get back to full strength.

The Pies meanwhile take on GWS at Giants Stadium in another tough affair for them.
