Murphy weighs in on Higgins departure reports

Shaun Higgins yesterday came out and immediately denied claims he turned down a deal from North Melbourne.

There were reports from Channel Seven’s Tom Browne that Higgins was weighing up whether to leave the Roos and that he was unhappy with the offer.

However, the two-time best and fairest winner quickly squashed those claims.

“I mean, there are reports that came out last night in terms of me rejecting a two-year offer. Factually incorrect. I haven’t actually received anything from the football club so it’s really baffling where that came from last night,” Higgins said yesterday.

Bob Murphy, who played with Higgins at the Bulldogs, says he can’t see the All-Australian leaving the Roos.

“It jarred straight away, like, I don’t think that’s going to happen,” Murphy told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“We heard the audio of Shaun Higgins and he sounded restrained. I’ve known Shaun for a long, long time and watching his expression, he was kind of enjoying it.

“If he could have said this is a load of shizen. That was the sense I got.

“The fact that he is even fronting the media, he doesn’t have to do that, he wants to get it out there that that’s not what’s going on.

“Shaun is smart. He knows if you just let these things go, in three more days it becomes like a bonfire that just keeps growing.”
