The MEGT Australia Rookie of the Year race is back for the 2019 season, where our AFL Nation experts will pick the first-year players or those on debut who impressed us during the previous round of footy.

Here are the nominees for Round 23.

John Noble

Noble has provided some speed and dash for the Pies across half back and picked up 20 disposals in the win over Essendon.

James Rowbottom

Rowbottom continues to impress for the Swans and is showing why they are so high on him long term.

Marty Hore

Marty Hore brought a great first season with the Dees to its conclusion in the loss to North Melbourne and he will likely be a long-term piece for the club.

Sam Walsh

Walsh was again one of Carlton’s best in the loss to Geelong, gathering 24 disposals and kicking a goal.

Ian Hill

Hill booted two goals for the Giants in his side’s win over Gold Coast and may just have locked himself a spot in their finals side.

Oliver Hanrahan

Hanrahan had a big role in Hawthorn’s win over West Coast, finishing with 19 disposals and having a couple of shots for goal.

Bailey Smith

Smith continued his brilliant year, picking up 22 disposals and taking five marks in the win over Adelaide.

Noah Answerth

Answerth has become a reliable defender for the Lions and a consistent member of their best 22 heading into September.

Xavier Duursma

Duursma booted two goals, took six marks and had 21 touches in Port Adelaide’s big win over Fremantle.
