Campbell Brown has recalled the hilarious circumstances that led to him being sent off by former Hawthorn teammate Luke Hodge.
Hodge announced his retirement on Saturday night after the Lions were defeated by GWS in the Semi-Final at the Gabba.
Brown says Hodge has always been a leader and asserted his authority on just about everything.
“One day I turned around at Etihad Stadium and he was saying to me: ‘Push up and pick him up and come back, go right, do this, do that’ and I turned around and I said to him: ‘Mate, why don’t you go and bloody man up? Don’t speak to me like this!’” Brown told SEN’s Sunday Brunch.
“We ended up standing in the middle of Etihad Stadium in the middle of a game against Carlton, had this massive argument about who was picking up who and eventually, he looks at me and goes: ‘You know what? Get off!’
“And I went: ‘Oh, I don’t think he’s got the authority to do that!’ But it’s Hodgey so I just started running towards the boundary!
“The runner came out and said: ‘What are you doing? You’re meant to be on!’
“I said: ‘Hodgey sent me off!’”
Hodge captained the Hawks from 2011 to 2016 during his decorated 346-game career.
