Delay in Fantasia decision frustrating Essendon: Barrett

Telstra AFL Trade Radio’s Damian Barrett believes it is only a matter of time before Essendon small forward Orazio Fantasia requests a trade out of the club.

He has been strongly linked to a move home to South Australia since the middle of the season, with Port Adelaide emerging as his preferred destination.

Barrett believes the Bombers are frustrated that Fantasia hasn’t yet come to them with his decision, adding they expected it yesterday.

“Industry wise, expectation is that Orazio Fantasia will at some stage very soon choose to go to Port Adelaide,” he told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.

“He was supposedly going to get his head around making a decision yesterday. He is all over the place and it has annoyed the Essendon Football Club, it’s annoyed the managers who he canvased for his services, he now has a third manager in the Adelaide-based Michael Doughty.

“Yesterday was meant to be the day and ideally for Essendon it would have been yesterday to at least get some clarity in what they want to do.

“They’re not as worried about losing him as they are Joe Daniher. They aren’t going to say that publicly and they’ll be saying he’s a contracted player and yes he is, but they have got their head around the fact that he is out and when it is all said and done, they’re not going to be shedding any tears over losing him.”
