'They need another key forward': Cooney

Adam Cooney believes Essendon has to go with a like-for-like replacement if Joe Daniher were to officially depart the club this trade period.

The 2008 Brownlow medal winner said despite having the likes of Shaun McKernan and Mitch Brown inside forward 50 as tall targets, the Bombers need to add more in that department if the Daniher trade request becomes reality.

"They don’t have to restart all over again," Cooney said on Telstra AFL Trade Radio.

"For all that Shaun McKernan does and the x-factor and also Mitch Brown down there they still need another key forward.

"If Orazio Fantasia is fully fit and Daniher is fully fit, they're 100 goals a year better between those two players. It’s hard to argue with that."

Daniher was the Bombers leading goalkicker for four consecutive years through 2014-17.
