Telstra AFL Trade Radio’s Damian Barrett believes Carlton and Sydney will today engage in serious discussions around the future of Tom Papley.
The small forward wishes to get home to Victoria and has requested a trade to the Blues, with the general expectation being that they will part with pick nine for him.
“There’s a belief now on the back of a couple of conversations I had last night that the Swans today will at least begin meaningful conversations with Carlton around their demands for Tom Papley and the offering, in the Swans’ eyes, of draft pick number nine,” Barrett said.
“He wants out and I think his desire to get out of there is so strong, which has been articulated publicly to a point, but to me not compellingly enough to make you think.
“This is a player who was given a chance as a rookie, has developed his football to the point where they consider him elite and part of their premiership hopes for the future.
“The Joe Daniher thing certainly has clouded it because of the currency Carlton has with pick nine.”
Carlton is looking to bolster its non-existent small forward depth in this trade period, with Papley being the jewel in that crown.
They also wish to add Adelaide’s Eddie Betts and Suns midfielder Jack Martin, while they have also been linked to Brisbane midfielder Tom Cutler.
