Richmond forward Dan Butler wants to play for St Kilda in 2020.
AFL.com.au’s Mitch Cleary says Carlton is out of the race for the premiership Tiger with the Saints the club of his choice.
Butler is the fifth player after Paddy Ryder (Port Adelaide, Dougal Howard (Port Adelaide), Zak Jones (Sydney) and Brad Hill (Fremantle) to express a desire to join St Kilda this trade period.
A fourth or fifth-round selection is what Richmond will seek as compensation for losing Butler.
“I’ve confirmed tonight that the Carlton Football Club are not interested and won’t be pursuing Dan Butler unless something extraordinary happens and they miss out on Jack Martin and Tom Papley,” Cleary told Telstra AFL Trade Radio.
“As it sits tonight, the Richmond Football Club are aware that Dan Butler wants to play his footy at St Kilda in 2020.
“The Tigers won’t be standing in his way; they only want a fourth or fifth-round pick.
“They’re more than happy for their 2017 premiership forward to walk to that footy club and they’re happy to try and accommodate that move for him.”
Butler, 23, played just seven senior games last season.
St Kilda hold picks 12, 18, 76, 82 in the 2019 draft.
