Carlton has confirmed SEN Breakfast newsman Sam Edmund’s story that Ollie Wines’ name was brought up in trade discussions.
Edmund reported that Wines’ camp came to the Blues and told them to explore a trade for the Power skipper. He added that Carlton eventually opted not to pursue him.
Carlton head of list management Stephen Silvagni commented on the situation.
“Ollie’s name came up, but he was never put on the table and so it was something that was blown out of proportion a little bit,” he told SEN Breakfast.
“To be fair to Port Adelaide and Ollie he’s obviously a Port Adelaide player and a really good one.
“If he did become available in the next year or two, we would be sitting down to have discussions with Ollie.”
When asked if salary cap tightness negated their ability to bring in Wines this year, Silvagni played a straight bat.
“We’re dealing with hypotheticals here and I’m not prepared to talk about Ollie when the (trade) period is done and he is contracted to Port Adelaide,” he said.
