After missing out on Tom Papley and potentially Jack Martin, Carlton has turned its sights to the available free agency pool and could make a play for St Kilda’s Jack Newnes.
AFL Media’s Mitch Cleary and Riley Beveridge are reporting that the restricted free agent could be delisted, allowing the Blues to swoop on him for nothing.
The report adds that Carlton has the strongest interest of the Victorian teams in the 26-year-old.
Newnes went through the free agency window untouched and with the Saints revamping their list, greater opportunities could loom at Ikon Park.
The Blues are in need of depth across half back after they retired veteran Dale Thomas. Captain Sam Docherty and youngster Tom Williamson have been unsighted for two years with serious injuries.
The Blues have six available spots on their list, with three likely to be taken by draftees and another by Martin.
