Fresh Collingwood draftee Jay Rantall has narrowly taken the honours in the club's 2km time trial.
The 18-year-old held on to beat four-time winner and endurance beast Tom Phillips just two months after breaking the AFL Draft Combine 2km time trial record by 14 seconds.
Like Phillips, Rantall is a running machine, and despite only committing to football this year (he competed in the under-17 basketball world cup last year) he won the Greater Western Rebels' best and fairest and averaged 19 touches for Vic Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.
Across his 12 NAB League matches he averaged 25 possessions and 6.5 tackles, as well as kicking 11 goals. Taken with pick 40 in the draft, the Magpies will be hoping Rantall proves to be extremely good value.
