Why there’s “absolutely” a spot on an AFL list for delisted Tiger

Nick Dal Santo says there's "absolutely" a spot on an AFL list for former Richmond forward Jacob Townsend.

Townsend, a premiership player with the Tigers in 2017, was not offered a contract by the reigning premiers for 2020 after making the solitary senior appearance last season.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Essendon through the AFL’s Supplemental Selection Period and Dal Santo feels he would add further depth to the Bombers' list.

“Absolutely there’s a spot for Townsend at a football club,” Dal Santo told SEN Summer Breakfast.

“I think Townsend will have to earn his right, and rightly so. If he plays half decent football, the football that he played two years ago, I like that pick-up by the Bombers.

“I’m not necessarily saying this is where he deserves to be, but he is a good
back-up.

“If injuries to occur or things aren’t working, and they need a different look in their forward line … I like that, I’ve got no issue with it.”

Townsend played 28 games for GWS between 2012 and 2015 before moving to Richmond and playing in the 2017 Grand Final victory over Adelaide.

He booted 28 goals in 20 matches during his time in the yellow and black.
