Lachie Whitfield will turn his back on free agency and become the latest GWS Giants player to recommit to the club, according to the Herald Sun.

The midfield running machine would’ve been a restricted free agency at the end of 2020 but will instead join the likes of Josh Kelly, Stephen Coniglio and Tim Taranto and re-sign at the Giants.

Jeremy Cameron and Zac Williams are also both eligible for free agency at the end of the season, but the club remains confident the pair will stay loyal.

Newly installed Giants football boss said earlier this month they were confident both Cameron and Williams would resist the lure of free agency.

“They’ve been presented with offers,” McCartney said.

“We’re well advanced in those discussions. You never exactly know until they’re signed but all the indications from players and their management are that they’re really comfortable and happy where they are.”

GWS will be hellbent on bouncing back in 2020 after their heavy 89-point loss to Richmond in this year’s AFL Grand Final.

Earlier this month, the Giants named Stephen Coniglio at their next captain after co-captains Phil Davis and Callan Ward decides to hand over the leadership position.
