Western Bulldogs defender Hayden Crozier admits he’s been blown away by incoming captain Marcus Bontempelli’s meteoric rise in the game.
The 24-year-old will captain the Dogs for the first time in 2020, taking over the role from 2016 premiership captain Easton Wood.
Crozier may have only been at the club since 2018 but already has sung the praises of the three-time club best and fairest winner.
“You forget he’s only 24 years of age, it’s pretty scary to be honest,” he said on SEN Breakfast.
“Ever since I’ve got to the club, he’s been in the position that if the captaincy was ever handed over to him at any stage then I’d be very confident he’d be able to do the job.
“Obviously it’s going to be a little bit more stressful as the season starts to get a bit closer, but we’ve got 100 per cent confidence in Marcus and his ability to lead.
“The strength of our club is a lot of the guys lead – it’s not going to all be on (Bontempelli’s) shoulders, it’s going to be all the shoulders of the 22 players that go out there every week.
“We’re very confident in Marcus and the leadership group to get the job done.”
