A noticeably slimmer Christian Petracca put in a dominant display during Melbourne’s 33-point win over Adelaide at Casey Fields on Saturday afternoon.
The 24-year-old collected 38 disposals (27 contested), kicked three goals and had 12 score involvements as the Dees won 15.13 (103) to 10.10 (70) in a promising first outing of 2020.
Clayton Oliver chipped in with 31 touches, while for Adelaide Brad Crouch was the highest possession getter with 30 as well as kicking a goal.
But the day belonged to Petracca, who looks to have benefited immensely from new fitness boss Darren Burgess’ remodelled regime.

Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said post-match it was the best performance of Petracca’s career.
"I certainly haven't seen him play a better game," he said.
"He's done a hell of a lot of work to get his (fitness) base to a point where he can do what he's doing now."
In Adelaide’s first game under new coach Matthew Nicks, his altered game style was evident as Crows defender attempted to utilise short kicks coming out of the back 50.
Adelaide will get one last opportunity to fine tune their new game plan against Gold Coast on March 6, while Melbourne are in action later than day against Hawthorn in Tasmania.
