The 4 certainties for Port Adelaide versus St Kilda

2024-04-26T13:00+10:00

Back for another year, the SEN.com.au team gives you an insight into how every game will play out across the weekend.

Labelling something a ‘certainty’ in any sport is fraught with danger.

But we’ll attempt to find some anyway.

Here is what we consider certainties for the Round 7 Friday night clash between Port Adelaide and St Kilda.

Port Adelaide

Houston to have 20+ disposals, 3+ rebound 50s

Dan Houston has been in superb form so far in 2024.

He is averaging 23 disposals as well as a career-high 5.3 rebounds 50s as one of the league’s premier half-backs.

In seven career games against St Kilda, he has averaged a tick over 23 touches, including 20 or more in three of his last four against the Saints.

On Friday night, we’re backing Houston to have at least 20 touches while contributing at least three rebound 50s.

Georgiades to kick 2+ goals

Mitch Georgiades has quickly found his feet after returning from his ACL injury.

The 22-year-old has kicked 2.2, 2.1 and 3.0 for a total of 7.3 in his three games back.

With Charlie Dixon returning to the side and Todd Marshall already present, we feel Georgiades could get a kind matchup which he could very well take advantage of.

He’s kicked 7 in 4 games against the Saints, including a 4 and a 2, and could again find himself with multiple goals on Friday night.

St Kilda

Marshall to have 20+ disposals and 25+ hitouts

Rowan Marshall faces a favourable ruck matchup on Friday against Jordon Sweet.

With Ivan Soldo out for the Power, Sweet will take up the No.1 ruck role for the first time in his new colours.

Sweet was subbed out of last week’s loss against Collingwood with just five touches and 21 hitouts.

While he’ll compete well with Marshall in the ruck, around the ground is where he’s likely to lag behind with the Saint averaging 21 touches and 25 hitouts a game in 2024.

Expect him to at least meet those averages in this game given he’s going up against a player with far less experience.

Membrey to kick 2+ goals

Max King failed his fitness test to get up for Friday’s game, meaning Tim Membrey will again be St Kilda’s key man inside 50.

The forward kicked three goals last week as the Saints’ main target and he kicked two the week before that against GWS.

There’s no doubt that the Saints will look to him when they have ball in hand going forward and Membrey should have plenty of opportunity at the Adelaide Oval.

Expect him to finish at least two of those chances.
