Richmond greats to call Preliminary Final on Tiger Radio

The Richmond Football Club have been afforded a unique call of this coming weekend’s Preliminary Final against the GWS Giants.

Finals-glory anticipation will reach fever-pitch for Tigers fans on Saturday when they take on GWS for a shot at the 2017 Toyota AFL Grand Final.

Befitting the occasion, Tiger greats Rex Hunt, Dale ‘Flea’ Weightman and Tony Jewell will join forces in a radio first: an unashamedly parochial call of the game via Tiger Radio on

The one-eyed call team will share their first-hand reactions and emotions as Richmond battles it out for a chance to reach their first Grand Final since 1982.

Jewell, the last man to coach the Tigers to a premiership in 1980, said the Tiger Radio commentary team would treat Richmond die-hards to a call to remember.

“It’s going to be one hell of a night for long-suffering Richmond supporters who’ve had to wait since 1980 for a Premiership flag,” Jewell said.

“I’m excited to be joining Rex and Dale in a true Tiger call of the game and we’ll make no apologies for it being biased and one-eyed,” he added.

Hunt who played in two Premierships with Richmond - 1969 and 1973 and has called more than 2000 AFL games across his incredible commentary career said he was pumped!

“Let’s just say it’s going to be a colourful call… yellow and black colours that is!” Hunt said.

Hunt can also be heard after the game on 3AW’s Footy Nightline dissecting the match and giving football listeners their say.

Tiger Radio will be brought to fans thanks to Red Energy – 100% Australian-owned energy, born and bred in Richmond for 13 years and McDonald’s Australia, the official restaurant of the AFL.

Six lucky Tigers fans will have the exclusive opportunity to join the Tiger Radio call team from their commentary box at the MCG at the Preliminary Final game on Saturday 23 September – thanks to Red Energy.

Be listening to Sportsday on 3AW this Monday (Sept 18), Tuesday (Sept 19) and Wednesday (Sept 20) night for the chance to win.

Tiger fans can tune into Tiger Radio on their PC, tablet or mobile via or, or listen via the AFL app.

Tiger Radio is a separate call to Crocmedia’s normal unbiased AFL Nation call that can be heard across 100+ radio stations nationally as well as streamed live on,, or via the AFL app across the Preliminary Final weekend.
