WESTERN Bulldog Matt Suckling’s pursuit for a career as an NFL punter has reached fever pitch after a recent visit to the USA.
Suckling, 29, has long held an ambition to follow the path of former AFL players such as Sav Rocca and Ben Graham into the NFL, only amplified after his month-long post-season holiday.
Seen as one of the most penetrating kicks in the AFL, Suckling has also held talks with renowned punting guru, and former AFL player Nathan Chapman about what it would take to reach the highest level.
Friends with Australian and New York Giants punter Brad Wing, Suckling himself practices in local Melbourne parks in the hope of one day following suit.
Suckling has one year remaining on his three-year contract at the Bulldogs, after crossing from Hawthorn.
